Fishing in Low Water,
Early Spring 2005. Arrowrock Reservoir.
Arrowrock Reservoir Fishing Reports
Arrowrock is a canyon reservoir, created by Arrowrock Dam, which dams the Boise River.
Lucky Peak Reservoir backs all the way to Arrowrock Dam. The lake is full in spring and nearly
empty in the fall on
short snowpack years. In the spring the lake is a wonderful place to explore by boat.
Lots of interesting coves and sights. There are many Osprey cruising overhead looking
for those delicious fish
dinners. Up-lake there are many Osprey nesting areas that are fun to watch. If you are
lucky you will see the fuzzy little chicks in their nests on top of trees or poles.
Rainbow trout fishing can be really good at Arrowrock at times. Bank fishing
and trolling is fun at Arrowrock. The Idaho Fish and Game regularly stocks
the lake with Trout and some Kokanee.
Arrowrock Reservoir is a good place to fish in the winter. The water is usually lower
and it does not usually freeze. The Trout have fattened up by winter and are in good shape.
Access is good in the winter, unless heavy snows hit the area.
Wear your snowmobile suit, and do some bank fishing. You can usually launch your boat
in the winter time as well.
Get to Arrowrock by driving North on Hwy 21 from Boise. Turn right at the High
Bridge to Spring Shores. The road is paved along Lucky Peak Reservoir up to Arrowrock
Dam, then is gravel the length
of Arrowrock. This road will take you to Atlanta, a quaint little mining town.

Water Temp: 63.9
Trolled the lake from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m with pop gear,
crankbaits, and spoons. Caught 1 trout on pop gear, wedding ring, and worm.
Trout was 26" long and very fat. The rest of the day was spent removing squaw
fish after squaw fish. We had three lines out and caught well over a hundred of them.
The majority of trolling was done in the area of the dam and steep banks near road.
(That's a lot of squaw fish Big Joe! ...Editor)

Fishing near the dam around 6pm hooked two kokes
14 inches from the bank using a chrome jig. One rainbow about 10 inches
and 30 or so suckers on a black roostertail. One guy trolling the
area seemed to be doing very well on the kokes. 6pm to 930pm north bank near dam.

Fishing Report: Fishing was FANTASTIC from the bank right by the dam.
A very short cast (15 to 20') using power bait... WOW! got there about 6pm
and my fishing buddy and I limmited out in an hour and a half. The 12 fish we
brought home weighed just shy of 18lbs!! The largest 'bow was just over 3 lbs
with 4 others weighing just a bit less. We stayed til about 8:30 catching about
24 total for the evening. I also caught a few bass aroung various rock formations
along the bank. Drop shoting with a dark plastic worm seemed to knock 'em dead.
Happy Fishing

Fished from the bank from about 11 AM to about 2:30 PM.
Caught two very nice rainbow trout, one was about a pound and a half, and a
beautiful color. Using worms, marshmallows, salmon egg, and scent. I was on
a fairly steep bank near the dam.
Watched a number of other fishermen, on the bank and in boats. Saw two other
fish caught. I would have to say the fishing is slow, but the day was warm and the
water was clear and blue-green. The lake is about 8 feet from full.
It would probably be a good idea to get there a little earlier in the day.

Caught 1 bow at the dam trolling a real slow pink
wedding ring w/ nightcrawler. Fished 8 to 10:30am. Action is starting to
pick-up. Talked with a few other folks that had 1 or two in the well. Watched
one guy land a 16" or better bow
on pink wedding ring tipped with corn. Bank fisherman seemed to be getting skunked.

Fishing for trout from the bank has been reported as being real good! Fishermen are
limiting out with 12 inch fish. Just above the dam is a good place to start. A sunny
day will help keep you warm
and may improve the bite.

Arrowrock Reservoir
Air Temp: 80
Water Temp: 74 at surface
Water: Clear, a little green
Water level is about 40 feet down.
Trolled for trout from about 9am to 1 pm. Used Cow bell pop gear
and a wedding ring with a Chartreuse blade, tipped with a worm. Hooked about 7 fish but
lost them because the hooks on the wedding ring were too hinky (or too small).
Also because I forgot my net and couldn't get them into the boat without losing them.
Don't forget your net!
Finally got 3 nice 13 inch Rainbows into the boat. Trolled near the dam.
My fishfinder said all the fish were hanging right at the bottom in
75 to 120 feet of water. A few were roaming at about 30 feet. Out in the main body
of the lake there were not many hits on the finder. So...take your fish finder and
fish where you find the fish. Don't waste your time burning gas around the lake
when there are no fish there.
If you don't have a fish finder, (you can get a Fishin Buddy for $99) troll around the
points, and anywhere you think the water may be cooler, or mixed up (like at the dam).
With the water so warm it will be tougher, they will be deeper. But they do have to
eat!
