Anderson Ranch Reservoir
The Lake
Anderson Ranch is a deep canyon reservoir with fluctuating water levels. Backed up by
Anderson Ranch Dam on the South Fork of the Boise River, drought conditions and snow packs
and irrigation determine how soon the water levels fall. The banks of Anderson are quite steep and
there are few weed beds.
Fishing is open year around. The lake is 17 miles long with 50 miles of shoreline.
The surface area totals 4740 acres.
Boat ramps are located at both ends of the lake.
The country is beautiful with lots of wildlife.
The reservoir can be reached by taking Hwy 20, North out of Mountain Home. Turn left at the
recreation signs.
The Fish
Anderson is a great Kokanee fishery. The Kokes are usually taken from boats
using the usual trolling gear, pop gear, wedding ring, and white corn.
In the early summer troll the surface. As the water warms they will go deeper.
In late August and early September they begin their spawning run and circle the
reservoir. At this time there can be large Rainbows, in the 3 to 10 pound range,
following the Kokes.
Rainbow Trout ply the waters and some are of good size. They feed on small Kokanee,
crayfish, and kokanee eggs.
Smallmouth Bass fishing is good in late spring, summer, and fall.
Fish the coves, structure,
and stream inlets.

Fishing Report:
Fished Anderson Ranch Lime Creek area from 8 am to
2 pm. Trolled with koke trolls then snubbers followed by pro troll red and
orange e-chips baited with white shoepeg corn dyed red and scented with anise
and shrimp oils. Let out 75 to 100 feet of line and then release clipped to
downriggers. Two poles out.
Kept 10 Kokanee for the smoker, all 14 - 15". Good, clean and firm fish. Most
fish were suspended along the thermocline in pods and that's where we caught
them. (32 to 35 feet and about 50-52 degrees at depth which is their preferred
temp range) Not really hot fishing for us but decent. Some boats looked like
they got skunked; others did about the same. One boat looked like they were
hammering them for a while... Keep the troll slow. We trolled between 1.2 to
1.4 mph. (GPS)

Fishing Report:
FISHED 9 AM TO 3 PM. MY WIFE TROLLED A WEDDING RING AND
CAUGHT 1 KOKANEE 8" LONG. I TROLLED A TASMANIAN DEVIL CAUGHT 5 THE SAME SIZE.
THERE WERE VERY FEW FISHING BOATS BECAUSE I THINK IT IS LATE IN THE SEASON.
IT WAS A NICE DAY, WARM AND A LITTLE BREEZY. ALL IN ALL IT WAS A PLEASENT DAY
AND I WISH THE FISH WERE A LITTLE BIGGER. TWO WEEKS EARLIER WE CAUGHT 30
FOR TWO DAYS OF FISHING AND THEY WERE 12" TO 14". THIS IS OUR LAST KOKANEE
TRIP FOR THIS SEASON, MAY TRY BASS. SEE YOU ON THE WATER NEXT YEAR.

Water Temp: 50
Fished for five hours, got skunked. Only a couple of bites.
Tried pop gear of various sorts on leaded line, regular line, and anywhere from 20 -
40 feet with a downrigger, as well as dragging spinners on top, all to no avail.
Water was pretty murky due to the fast rise of the reservoir level.
