American Falls Reservoir

American Falls Reservoir, on the Snake River, sports abundant springs that provide cool water during the hot summer months. These springs also provide oxygenated water during winter. Lots of great
fishing can be found here year around. There is even good ice fishing during cold winters. American is open to fishing year round, with best fishing in the spring and fall. As the summer rolls on the
algae growth blooms. Water clarity varies with algae growth and sediments stirred up by winds. American Falls is a shallow lake, and warms in summer.
Size - 56,000 acres. This is Idaho's largest reservoir
when it is at full pool. Location near Aberdeen, Idaho, on the Snake River
The Fish
Rainbow, Cutthroat trout, Carp, Suckers, Utah Chub, Perch, Crappie, Bullheads, and lots of minnows.
Bank fishermen usually fish with a worm. Keep it off the bottom.
Boaters cast into the willows with minnow imitations.

Fishing Report: Recently restocked with rainbows and browns. Caught
and released close to 100 fish in three days, some nice browns 16 to 18 inches.
Since fish were recently stocked they did not taste very well (had to try fresh
fish one night). Best bait was a rooster tail. Fished from pontoon boat, don't
expect to use boat docks this year as lake is refilling real slow due to low
snow pack.

Name: Jesse Galego
Water Temp: 41---43
Fishing Report:
Caught a nice rainbow off the shore about a 1/4 mile
from boat launch.
Hooked a few small mouth but none big enough to be of any merit.
Weather was slightly warm and bow was caught around 5pm.
If you are fishing this area have patience and cast out as far as you can,
fish start heading in to shore around 5 or 6 so those are awesome times to be out there.

I have not heard much about the fishing in American Falls Res. Today is Sat June 4
and today there is a bass tournament. There is a fish derby on June 12,
$500.00 first prize, $200.00 second prize, and $100.00 third prize.
And I think the entry fee is $10.00
American Falls is in great shape with lots of water.
I will go out today and see if anyone is catching any fish and let you know.
Below the dam they are catching fish from the boats and on the banks fishing is great!!

American Falls reservoir will have much more water reserved this fall
allowing boat access, better spawning conditions for bass, and just better
fishing conditions. American will retain about 12% capacity instead of 5%.
